Awards
Every spring, usually at the end of March or early in April, we present the BPG Television and Radio Awards. These recognise outstanding programmes and performances seen or heard in the preceding year. All but three of the 14 Awards are voted for by the membership. The rest are decided by specialist panels.
Since 1998 our annual Awards lunches have been held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, following ten years at the Royal Opera House.
Recent sponsors of the event have included HomeChoice, ITV plc, UKTV, Discovery Channel and Pearson/Channel 5. From 2007 to 2009, the Awards were sponsored by Turner Broadcasting. In 2010, UKTV is once again our sponsor.
Between 1980 and 1992 we had our own 50-minute Awards programme on BBC One, broadcast live from the BBC’s Pebble Mill studios in Birmingham.
The 36th Annual Broadcasting Press Guild TV and Radio Awards will be held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on March 26, 2010.
